Sree Maheswara temple at Koorkenchery has the added sanctity of it having been consecrated to Lord Shiva at the hallowed hands of Sree Narayana Gurudevan himself. The sacred ceremony was conducted by Gurudevan on the auspicious day of “Uthradam Nakshathram” in the Malayalam month of Chingam, in the year 1092. The deities of Ganapathy and Balasubramanya were consecrated by Brahmasree Bhodananda Swamikal. The temple also has the deities of Ayyappa, Venugopalan, Sree Parvathi, the Navagrahas, Muthappan and Bhagavathy. The legendary Thaipooyam, which falls in the month of Makaram is the most renowned festival associated with the temple. In keeping with the teachings of Sree Narayana Gurudevan the
more temple is open for worship to whoever wishes to, irrespective of caste or religion. The administrative responsibility of the temple is borne by Sree Narayana Bhakthaparipalana Yogam, a body which has a membership of over 14,000.
