Mulamkunnathukavu Sree Ayyappa Temple

History

Mulamkunnathukavu Sree Ayyappa Temple is one of our locality's most historic and revered sites, rich with tradition and history. The area was once abundant with bamboo groves, locally known as "mula," which is believed to have given the temple its name. The temple holds significant cultural and spiritual importance. It is from here that the Mulamkunnathukavu Desham Ezhunnallippu procession originates. The annual festival, or Ulsavam, is celebrated with great fervour for ten days. During the festival, devotees are served kanji (rice porridge) and Sadhya (feast), and the Ulsava committee organizes various programs and rituals. Situated conveniently near the Mulamkunnathukavu bus stop on the Kodungallur-Shoranur state highway, the more temple is easily accessible. The main deity here is Lord Ayyappa, worshipped in the form of Dharmasastha, with Lord Vinayaka as the sub-deity.  One of the most unique features of this temple is the story of Kirata, which makes the Balikkalpura (the offering hall) a focal point of interest. The main offering here, Thiyattu, is especially popular among devotees praying for the blessing of children. The Cochin Devaswom Board manages the temple and boasts ample parking facilities and a large temple pond. Its serene environment and cultural significance make it a cherished spiritual destination for many in the region.
