PadinjareKottaram Sree Dharmasastha Kshethram is one of the very few Saneeswara temples in Kerala. The temple is 400 years old. The temple is situated one and a half kilometres north of the Cherthala Railway Station, and 300 meters south of the Kottaram Railway cross, west of Thanki Junction on NH 17. The idol of Sree Dharmashastha, revered as the presiding deity of the Kali Yuga, is in the form of Saneeswara, with the pot of nectar in hand. It is believed that reciting the name and glories of the Lord is the only way for salvation in these times. The most important among them is ‘Sree BhoothanathaNamam’.
more The recital of this is believed to bring fulfilment of all wishes and removal of all sorrows. The evil effects associated with the planet Saturn, will be removed on worshipping this deity. A huge crowd gathers at this temple for this, especially on Saturdays. Many devotees have vouched for the beneficial effect that the Sathwik worship of the deity in this temple has brought in their lives. The anointment of the deity with sandal wood, Mahasaneeswara Puja and Annadaanam which are held on the second Saturday of every month are believed to be of great significance in avoiding the evil effects. Apart from these, Neeranjanam, lighting the lamp with sesame seeds, the offering of all the pujas for one day and the special offering of the special payasam are also made by very many devotees. Sree Bhagavathy is consecrated with equal prominence and Sivan, Ganapathy, BrahmaRakshas and Serpants as minor deities. The seven-day festival is scheduled in order to conclude aarattu on the star Punartham in the month of Dhanu. (December – January). The Ulsava bali is held on the day of star Rohini during the festival. The Thalapoli has been conducted under the auspices of the Kottaram Bhagavathy Trust for many decades. The festival held on Thiruvathira and the annual festival are conducted by the NSS Karayogam No: 1608 of North Kottaram and NSS Karayogam No: 1621 of South Kottaram on alternate years. The Padinjare Kottaram Sree Dharmasastha Seva Sangham and the Bhakthajana Samithy conduct one day’s festivities and ancient families of the area like Pattathil, Kattiyatt, and Manapally also conduct one day’s rites each. The Desha Thalapoli as well as Kalam Ezhuthum pattum are held the day before the flag is hoisted for the festival. Thalapoli for the Bhagavathy is also conducted on a grand scale. Sreemad Bhagavatha Sapthaham is held every year which concludes on the 2nd of May. The Mandala Bhajana is held for forty days from the 1st of Vruchikam under the auspices of the Bhajanasamajam. The Devaswam conducts Sreemad Devi Bhagavatha Navaaham during the Navarathri festival. Special Pournamipooja is held on all full moon days. The temple was the venue for the Ayappa Mahasathram held from December 2, 2016. This was attended by many eminent personalities and was acclaimed to be a grand success.
