Umayanalloor Sree Bala Subramanya Swamy Temple, located in Umayanalloor, Mayyanad, Kollam district, Kerala, is a revered shrine dedicated to the child form of Lord Muruga, known as Sree Bala Subramanya Swamy. The presiding deity's idol faces west, similar to the renowned temple at Palani. It is believed that the temple's Prathistha (consecration) was performed by Adi Shankaracharya. Temple hosts an 8-day annual festival, culminating in the aarattu (holy bath) on the Karthika nakshatra in the Malayalam month of Meenam (March-April). Key highlights of the festival include the Kuthira Kettu Utsavam and the unique ritual Anaval Pidutham, where devotees symbolically reenact childhood pranks between Lord Subramanya and Lord
more Ganesha by running after an elephant and catching its tail. Every three years, a special procession is held, during which the temple's Devi is taken to a nearby paddy field for worship. According to history, the temple was built by King Keralavarma of Desinganad for his daughter and later came under the patronage of Umayamma Rani. It was traditionally managed by the Umayanalloor, Akavoor, and Umamopali families. The temple is especially famous for its unique ritual of Aana Vaalu Pidittam, celebrated during its festival, drawing devotees from far and wide.
