The Dathathreya temple is situated about 1.5km from Kaloor, Ernakulam on the Perandoor road. It is on the western side of the road and faces the east. It is the first Dathathreya temple in Kerala. It is believed that Lord Mahavishnu took incarnation as Dathathreya to restore the lost spirituality among mankind. He reigns in this temple blessing the devotees with peace and prosperity. Legend says that a sanyasin who was a great devotee of Lord Dathathreya was performing penance on the banks of the Ganges. The Lord appeared before him and gave him the footwear that contained his power. The sanyasin was disturbed by more the powerful light that emanated from the footwear. Sage Narada arrived there and advised the sanyasin to take the divine footwear to the land of Lord Parasurama and consecrate it there. It was this sanyasin who consecrated it at this temple.
