Jaladhivasa Ganapathy Temple

History

This is the only temple with Ganapathy consecrated in water. The Lord is pictured with ten hands. As the Lord is always in a happy state devotees believe that all their prayers will be granted. Legend says that ascetics of old performed a Yaga to please Lord Ganapathy. Lord Ganapathy appeared in the sacrificial fire pit and the pit was filled with water to become a pond. That is how the Lord came to be in the water. As the ascetics conducted the yajna, the brilliance of all the gods was present there. The Lord is also known as Karimundan thevar. A Brahmin belonging to the more Karingampilly swaroopam built a temple on the banks of the pond and consecrated an idol. The effulgence is transferred from the pond to the idol in the temple in the morning and transferred back after the last puja in the night. Devotees circumambulate the pond also while worshipping the Lord.
