History

Located in Panjal, Thrissur, Thottathil Mana, the Sree Kiratha Rudra Sreevidya Peedom, holds a distinguished place in the Samaveda scholarship. Known for their deep-rooted Samaveda tradition, the family of Thottathil Mana has contributed immensely to preserving and practising the Vedic culture associated with Panjal, a place enriched with the heritage of yajnas. Over the generations, they have participated in numerous yagas and continue to hold a prominent role in sustaining these traditions. Today, Brahmasree Kuttan Namboothiri represents this lineage, standing out as a modern luminary in the fields of Upasana, Veda, Jyotisha, and Tantra. A unique feature of Thottathil Mana is its patron deity, Vettekkaran (Kiratha Shiva), more who is also the central deity of Kiratharudra Sreevidyapeedham, which runs under the guidance of Sri Kuttan Namboothiri. The Mahakiratha Rudra Yajnam is the annual festival dedicated to Lord Vettekkaran. Each year, devotees from around the world gather to partake in this yajnas, which is rich in Vedic and Tantric rituals. A key ceremony involves the offering of 12,008 coconuts, symbolizing the obstacles of life that the Lord effortlessly overcomes. Central rituals include Oottu (offering of food), Pattu (Kalam Pattu), and Kottu (drums), while special offerings include chathushatham (payasam) and koottappam. Over time, many prominent personalities from the fields of art, culture, literature, and spirituality have visited this sacred place. The festival includes traditional temple arts, panchavadyam, melam, ezhunallippu, folk arts, and cultural performances that transcend boundaries of language and region, transforming Mahakiratha Rudra Yajnam into a unified yajnasala a space for universal prayer and human upliftment.
