Long ago, the area of Katumpiti was under a Nair chieftain of the Itayath family. This family had a consecration of Dharma Shastha on a small platform made by piling up stones. His consort Prabha was consecrated on one side and their son Sathyakan on the other. This type of consecration of Shastha is scarce in Kerala. Those idols are still there facing the West. Around 600 years ago a Brahmin from Pathiramattom illom at Muvattupuzha was brought here to do the pooja for Shastha. He consecrated Durgadev also there and offered pooja at both places. The family came to be known as Idamana Illam and
more the members of that family continue to provide poojas here. There is a unique phenomenon of the river flowing from east to west, turning south as it comes before the Bhagavathy and then again turning west.
