Sree Naithalakavu Temple

History

Sree Naithalakavu Temple, located in the village of Kuttur, 6 km north of Thrissur, is under the management of the Cochin Devaswom Board. Historically, the temple is believed to have ties with the Cochin Royal Family, and during their reign, the Amma (goddess) of Naithalakkavu held a special status in Shakthan Thampuran's palace. Amma is the guardian deity of Kuttur village, surrounded by several Shiva temples. A unique tradition is that Naithalakkavu Amma holds the exclusive authority to open the Thekke Gopuram (South Gate) of the Vadakkunnathan Temple during the annual Thrissur Pooram festival. The temple's sanctum sanctorum, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is one of the more largest circular sanctums in Kerala.
