Sree Navaneetha Gopalakrishna Temple

History

Sree Navaneetha Gopalakrishna Swamy Temple, located in Ambikapuram, Palakkad, is surrounded by the historically renowned agraharams of Kalpathy, Kumarapuram, and Chokkanathapuram. In keeping with the Hindu tradition of "one village, one temple," Ambikapuram has its temple, where the presiding deity is Sri Navaneethakrishna, despite the village being named after Ambikapuram. A tale from the Dasama Skandha of Srimad Bhagavatham narrates that Balarama, Sreekrishna, and Nandagopa once visited Ambikavanam to worship Sri Parameswara and Sri Parvathy. After performing rituals, they rested, but a python attempted to swallow Nandagopa as they slept. Lord Krishna intervened, and at the touch of His lotus feet, the snake, revealed to be Sudarshana, more was freed. This divine act may have inspired the temple's spiritual significance, where the concept of Lord Ambikapuresa is integrated into the worship of the presiding deity, Sri Navaneethakrishna.
