This temple is at Maruthankuzhi in Thiruvananthapuram. Legend connects this temple with the Neelakanda of the Udiyanoor family. He completed his education under Kesarapurathu Aasan. Once, the family goddess Bhadrakali appeared before Neelakanda in a dream and instructed him to retrieve an idol that he would find in the Killi river during the floods and worship it. As instructed, Neelakandan went to the river and jumped into the water. He found the idol, but he disappeared along with it. His teacher started a puja, and the boy returned after seven days. He placed the idol in a box
more made of a jackfruit tree and started worshipping it. While he offered tender coconut and bananas to the Goddess, his mother made Ada as Nivedyam. Even today, Ada is the most important offering there. Soon, the idol was transferred to a room made of stone named Mudipra, and Neelakanda became Neelakaanda Paramahamsaguru. This Mudipura is believed to have been built in 1800. The place was reconstructed in 1956. During that work, an idol more than 31 inches tall was found and installed in the temple.
