This temple is at Matikkai, Achikkanam, Kasargod. It is believed that a great sage called Ammattakotal used to sit in penance at this place almost 500 years ago. Lord Mahavishnu appeared before him. Later he entered samadhi at this spot. The Karuvarambath Maniyara family consecrated the Lord Vishnu whom the sage worshipped at this place. Since it was not possible to look after the pujas and other rituals of the temple, that family donated some land to the Ambamkott Illam.
