This ancient Siva temple is at Athazhaneloor at
Kotunthirapilly, in the Palaghatt district. It is believed to have been established
by Sage Agasthya in the Dwapara Yuga and hence thousands of years old. It is on
the northern bank of Bharathapuzha. The sanctum faces the west. It is one of
the 108 famous Siva temples in Kerala. The ancient temple has been renovated
with the sanctum and the Nandi mandapam made of Krishnashila. A sanctum for
Lord Subrahmanya and a platform for the Nagas have also been built.
