Elanjimel Vallikavu Temple is situated in Budhanoor, near Mavelikara in the Alappuzha district of Kerala. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathi (Devi). The complex features two sacred groves or "kavus" Thekke Kavu (South) and Vadakke Kavu (North), with Vadakke Kavu being the more significant one. The main deity worshipped here is Goddess Bhadrakali, whose idol faces east. Unique customs govern worship at Vadakke Kavu: women are not allowed inside, and men are prohibited from viewing the idol (bim bam or vigraham). Only the eastern door of the temple is opened for worship, and the temple is accessible on Sunday, Tuesday, and Friday, as well as on
more the first day of the Malayalam month and for 32 days from Vrischikam 1 to Dhanu 1. The temple priest (pujari) belongs to the Kuruppu caste, and the nadapanthal (covered walkway) is on the southern side. Historically, the temple was owned by the Mundappali family. According to legend, Vilwamangalam Swamiyar, a revered saint, once meditated (performed bhajan) at this site. The temple grove is also known for being home to numerous monkeys.
