Vilayanchathanur lies about 10 kilometres south of Palakkad on the Palakkad Nenmmara road. This serene village evokes the memory of a self-sufficient and prosperous rural community of yesteryears, where local craftsmen thrived. At the heart of the town stands the ancient temple dedicated to Goddess Durga Parameshwari, whose divine presence is said to permeate the area like a rare fragrance. The temple believed to be over 400 years old, was once a site of grandeur and glory before falling into neglect. Legend has it that the idol of Goddess Durga is Swayambhoo (self-manifested). The story of its discovery is as follows: many years ago, a woman more cutting grass struck something hard with her sickle. Upon examining it, she was shocked to find bloodstains on the blade. Frightened, she reported the incident to the village elders, who consulted astrologers. The astrologers revealed that the divine presence of Goddess Durga had blessed the village. Upon clearing the overgrown area, a large self-born stone idol of the Goddess was found, and a temple was promptly built. Over time, however, the temple lost its prominence, but the divine power of the deity remains undiminished. Now, what is needed is to revive this sacred space through daily worship and prayer. The temple is in urgent need of renovation and regular ritualistic worship, but the village's limited resources make it difficult to meet these demands. Therefore, the community is appealing to the public for financial contributions to help restore this historic temple. Goddess Durga is renowned as the loving Divine Mother, who not only removes obstacles but also grants blessings and prosperity to her devotees, ensuring their material and spiritual well-being.
