This ancient temple is situated on the Bye-pass road at Edappally in Ernakulam. Lord Mahadeva is the main deity consecrated in the circular sanctum facing east while Goddess Parvathy is also in the same sanctum facing west. This is seen only very rarely. Pujas are performed twice a day. Sub deities are Mahavishnu, Dharma Shasthavu, Maha Ganapathy, Nagarajavu and Nagayakshiyamma. The temple is believed to be at least 1000 years old as old as the famous Vamana temple at Thrikkakkara. It is believed that one of the rulers of Kerala, before the time of Cheraman Perumal, brought a Brahmin priest from Kashi to perform pujas. more He is believed to have performed pujas at the Vamana temple and the Mayilalath temple. The name Mayilalam came from the fact that in ancient times, many peacocks (Mayil in Malayalam) used to be found in the place near the temple. The temple was under the Edappally Swaroopam. Now it is managed by the Chengottukonam Ramadasa Mission. Sivarathri is the most important festival celebrated at this temple.
