Muttathara Melaamcode Bhagavathy Temple

History

This temple is at Melamcode, Pazhavadi, Nedumangad, Thiruvananthapuram. It is believed to be more than 70 years old. There was a lady known as Kovilamma who was an ardent devotee of Goddess Parvathy. Once she came to Melammcode  Bhagavathy temple while on a pilgrimage.  While she was praying there, she heard a voice telling her that as she had come to visit the Goddess, she would have a special visitor very soon. After returning home, a man and a woman came to her house and asked for food.  She shared her food with them. That night she had a dream in which the Goddess asked more her to provide a place for her there. Kovilamma made astrological consultations and it was revealed that her guests were Melaamcode Ilayamma, or Neeliyamma and Maadan Thampuran.  So, she made a platform for them and built a roof over it.  But soon the people in the locality started hearing the sound of anklets and saw shadows with no object. So, another astrological consultation was held. As per the findings of that consultation, Kovilamma had Chembakavally Amma, the Melaancode Valiyamma, also consecrated there. Two sancta were made for both the Goddesses. This became the Melaamcode Bhagavathy temple. Kovilamma also got the power to see into the problems and suggest solutions on astrological consultation, with the blessing of Neeliyamma. The temple is looked after by her descendants after the death of Kovilamma.
