This temple is unique in its consecration and rituals. While Sree Rama is in the mild form in all other temples, here he is in the fierce form. In a place surrounded by water Sree Rama is consecrated as he was after killing Mareecha who had come to help Ravana abduct Sita. He is considered as the ruler of the waters. The temple is believed to be centuries old. Till a few decades ago it was a thatched small temple. It was renovated under the leadership of the local devotees and the present structure was built. There is also the consecration of Pathala Nagam which
more is very rare in Kerala. The traditional practice of visiting the temples of Sree Rama, Bharatha, Lakshmana and Shathrugna on the same day in the month of Karkidakam starts from this temple in Northern Kerala.
