Puthuvype Sree Rama Temple

History

This temple is at Puthuvayppu in the Vypeen islands of Ernakulam district. The people here used to worship Lord Hanuman under a banyan tree, and there was a small temple for Lord Sree Rama nearby where the photo of the lord used to be worshipped. When the Petroleum factory was to be established at Ambalamugal there was a temple in the land that was acquired. This was the Sree Krishna temple belonging to the Kokkara Illam Mana there. They approached the Viswa Hindu Parishad, a temple organization, to shift the temple from there. Land was found at Puthuvayppu and the temple was shifted there. On astrological more consultation, it was decided to have two separate sancta for Sree Rama and Sree Krishna. This is the only consecration of Lord Hanuman in the Vypeen islands. Devotees offer special pujas on Tuesdays and are assured of the Lord’s blessings in fulfilling desires. Ganapathy, Ayappan and Murugan have been consecrated as subordinate deities inside and Sree Durga, Bhadrakali, Bhagavathy, Yakshi, Saptha Mathrukkal and Ashtanagas outside. Sahasranama Archana for Sree Rama Swamy on Thursdays and Navakam abhishekam on all full moon days are specialities of this temple.
