Kamoth Bhagavathy Temple

History

This temple is situated at Panangad, a few kilometres away from the Vyttila Junction, Ernakulam. It is believed to be centuries old. Bhagavathy is consecrated as she comes back in happiness after destroying Darika. In ancient times when there were constant fights for supremacy between the states of Kochi and Travancore, the subordinate ruler of Karapuram lying between Aroorkutty and Cherthala supported the King of Kochi. When Travancore captured this area, a Namboothiri family left their home and came to Panangad. They brought the Devi, their Paradevatha and consecrated her at Idathi Kovil.  Later the Goddess was consecrated at the present location. Durga Devi and Bhadrakali are consecrated more with equal importance. The sanctum of Durga Devi faces the east. Sree Mahadeva is consecrated facing the west. Sree Dharma Shastha is consecrated facing the east. Nagas are also consecrated in this temple.
